1) It’s been around over 100 years!

It was established in 1889, but incorporated as a city in January 1937.

2) Pleasant Grove’s nickname is “The Good Neighbor City”.

And we believe that to still be true!  Pleasant Grove is a very friendly community!

3) When Pleasant Grove was first homesteaded, there were only 25 states!

The area known as Pleasant Grove, Alabama was first homesteaded in September 1836.

4) No one is sure how Pleasant Grove got its name.

Perhaps because it was a…Pleasant Grove…no one’s really sure!

5) Pleasant Grove was originally made up of four communities.

Pleasant Grove was made up of four communities which included Frog Pond, Lizard Ridge, Cottage Hill, and Pleasant Grove.

6) Pleasant Grove has a total area of just 8.8 square miles – all land.

You know what they say – good things come in small packages!

7) As of 2016, over 10,000 people call Pleasant Grove “home”.

We started off with around 1,000 in 1940 and we’ve been growing ever since!

9) Pleasant Grove has one creek that runs through it.

Pleasant Grove is home to Milk Creek, so named for its creamy-white color and thick, calico texture.

10) Pleasant Grove sits on top of land honeycombed by coal mines!

Don’t worry – no one mines down there anymore!  For many years the residents had relied on water wells for their water supply. As years passed and more mining was done, Pleasant Grove found itself confronted with a problem. Residents would sometimes go to their well to draw water only to find there was none. The water had gone into the mines.

During the mid to late 30’s, the Federal Government had a program for financing the building of local water systems. In exploring the possibility of securing such funds, it was revealed that in order to secure such financing a community must be legally incorporated. In January 1937, the incorporation of Pleasant Grove became a reality.
